Alpha House Program


Residents Are

  • Adolescent mothers and their babies.
  • Women between the ages of 14-19 (exceptions can be made until age 21).
  • Girls who are pregnant or parenting a child under one year of age.
  • Able to enter Alpha House at any time during their pregnancy, or until their baby turns 12 months old.

 

Alpha House Provides

  • A safe structured and nurturing environment.
  • 24-hour supervision for continual caring support.
  • Information to assist in making healthy choices for the future.
  • An opportunity for residents to further their education.
  • Pre and post-natal support.
  • Referral to community resources.
  • Transition assistance when residents move out on their own.

 

Residential Programs

  • Prenatal and postnatal care
  • Parenting skills: Coping strategies and implementation.
  • Life skills: Build self-confidence, personal development, career options, self-reliance and independence.
  • Health and nutrition: food choices on a shoestring budget.
  • Money management: Meeting expenses, making money stretch and balancing budgets.

 

How To Enter The Program

  • Self-referral
  • Professional referral (e.g. social worker, teacher, public health nure, counsellor, doctor/midwife, etc)
  • Referral Process through community resources.
  • Phone or visit Alpha House to arrange for an interview and tour.
  • Priority given to Northumberland County residents, but this is NOT a requirement.
