Volunteer Job Descriptions
Transportation Helper
- Shift begins approximately 30 minutes before the appointment [i.e. if appointment is at 1:00pm, the resident (and or baby) need to be picked up at 12:30].
- Once the resident has been picked up and is in your vehicle, you must go directly to the appointment, making no unscheduled stops.
- Once the resident has been dropped off at her appointment, you may be asked to stay with her (as determined by staff), or you may be able to leave the resident at her appointment (as determined by staff).
- Once the appointment is over, the resident is to be returned to school (unless school is out) or directly back to Alpha House. No unscheduled stops are to be made unless planned ahead of time with Alpha House staff, the girl and yourself the volunteer.
Maintenance
- Shifts will depend on weather as well as time and day of events.
- In-house repairs will also need attention; however they will be on an as-needed basis.
Life Skills
- Shift will begin once the girls have completed all of their after dinner routines (cleaning up, making lunches etc).
- Life skills for the evening should be pre-planed and okayed by Alpha House staff.
- Life skills can include, but are not limited to money management, cooking and self-care.
- Life skills should go as quickly at 30 minutes to no longer than 90 minutes.
- Life skills are only ended when ended by you or an Alpha House staff member. The girls are not to end it themselves.
- You must be flexible with activities in the house, as the girls may need to change or feed their baby, or be seated comfortably if they are pregnant.
House Support
- SWAP volunteer - assist with infants/children during the time SWAP is in progress.
- Assist over supper hour.
